Cover Reveal! The Cafe By The Bridge

Ta-da! Without further ado, I give you Book 2 in the Chalk Hill series, and more specifically the heroine: Taylor Woods 🙂

Taylor is about to rock Abel Honeychurch’s world… I almost feel sorry for him because the youngest Honeychurch brother really doesn’t know what’s about to hit him…

The Cafe by the Bridge_FC

Child psychologist Taylor Woods needs a man. Flashy restaurateur Abel Honeychurch to be specific. Abe can help her get justice for her brother, Will. Taylor knows Abe, too, was scammed by the same woman who broke her brother’s heart and stole everything in his pockets.

But bringing a lying, cheating scammer to justice isn’t easy when all Abe wants to do is forget the whole sorry saga. He’s returned to his home town of Chalk Hill to lick his wounds and repay his debts, renovating his nanna’s house and opening the Chalk ‘n’ Cheese cafe.

He’s miserable. And it would be easier to stay miserable if everyone else around him wasn’t so darn cheerful. It’s wildflower season in Chalk Hill with a cafe full of upbeat bushwalkers, and it’s all Abe can do to remember to put sugar, not salt, in his customers’ cappuccinos. He definitely has no time for the mysterious red–headed guest who admires his cheesecake and adores his flat white.

Taylor’s mission to help her brother seems doomed – how will she gain the trust of a man whose every instinct tells him never to trust a woman again?

Butterfly House Book 2 is out now!

A sneak peek at my hometown of #Cowaramup during the recent DejaMoo – Udderly Legendairy Country Fair. It’s the only place you can wear a cow onesie or a milk carton and feel totally at home!

movie 7 copyAs usual when there is a Fair going on in the local hall, I take out a stand to support the Cowaramup Retailers Association and sell my books and have a chat about books to anyone interested in reading. I always have an awesome time and meet some great people, and this year I had a new book to launch!

It’s WHO KILLED THE MOVIE STAR? Butterfly House Book 2
— the sequel to WHO KILLED THE BRIDE? —

My Butterfly House books are set in Cowaramup and I describe them as: ‘Like Bridget Jones meets the Cowaramup cows…’ They’re mad-cap fun, great for a giggle, a wonderful souvenir of our town and gorgeous hand-crafted gift for you or the reader in your life.

Who Killed The Movie Star follows the tale of Cally Minter and her best friend Sienna Devereux who we met in Book 1 where they’re trialling their new tourism venture in Cowaramup:  Murder Mystery at Butterfly House.

Who Killed The Movie Star starts the day after events of Who Killed The Brideand so I’d definitely recommend you read Book 1 first, or you’ll be lost!

The Evolution of a Butterfly Book Cover

How cool is it to have a book series called Butterfly House, and to be able to show the metamorphosis of a book cover… just like a butterfly!

If you scroll through the photos, you’ll see the unveiling of my latest Butterfly House cover, version by version, once again designed by the ever-talented Kerry Sibly.

Movie 1
Version 1: Kerry started with pink in the background, like my original Butterfly House Who Killed The Bride? … but I want something different from pink, so the first alteration was easy.
Movie 2
Version 2: Right from the get-go I love this purple through gold. The Butterfly House Book 2 line on cover and spine are hard to read… they need to be white… and there is a lot going on with ‘Marilyn figure’ ‘actor bloke’ ‘cow’ and ‘camera’… I’m thinking, we need to simplify. Let’s make ‘Marilyn’ bigger and lose the bloke.
movie 3
Version 3: Now we’re cooking with gas! I’m loving this… but because it’s ‘movie star’ I’d like to see some twinkle twinkle little stars on there… stay tuned!
movie 4
Version 4: Ask for stars and ye shall receive!!!
lotsa stars
Version 5: More stars! Too many?
movie 7
Version 6: Subtle stars… I’m loving this! Now we’ve just got the back cover blurb to update and a new barcode to add, and we’re done. Here’s our Beautiful new Butterfly!

So there you have it folks! Can you see the progression? Isn’t it beautiful? It’s got all the quirk and character of Cowaramup, and it’s so very original and pretty! 🙂

Love your work, Kerry Sibly!

Introducing the West Coast Fiction Festival 2018

It’s still a long way off, but I am thrilled to let you know about a new and exciting readers’ festival coming to West Australia next year.

west-coast-fiction-festival-icon

It’s the West Coast Fiction Festival, put together by a great group of top-selling WA authors and it’s featuring brilliant traditional-published and indie-published writers from all across the country, (and some international authors) coming under the one roof at the Rendezvous Hotel in Scarborough on November 3, 2018.

lilym_lowresAnd guess what? I will be there… just perhaps not with my pink beanie (it will be almost Summer in Perth by then and my ears would melt!)

What is really exciting is that I will have at least one new book out before the Festival, to join The Vineyard In The Hills as print paperback releases. I’ll also be there with Who Killed The Bride? From my Butterfly House series, to wow everyone with what I reckon will be the most unusual book cover in the Hotel that day! (Yes, I am biased!)

butterfly-magnetThe idea of the Festival is to bring along your own books written by the signing authors (for signatures), plus there will be new books to buy (of course); and authors to meet, greet and have a chat and photo with, if you like 🙂

You can find the list of authors at the Festival’s web page, or click here. There is also a Facebook group set up to give people information about the Festival. Join the group here. And there is also a mailing list you can join by clicking here.

Besides connecting readers with their favourite authors, and new authors, the goal of the event is to raise money for Share the Dignity – a charity which supports homeless women in Australia.

You can follow West Coast Fiction Festival on Facebook and Twitter.

For all the information, go visit http://www.wcfictionfestival.com.au/ and bookmark the website.

Plus there is dancing… but more about that later 🙂

I can’t wait to be part of this great initiative for fiction in Western Australia…

Cover Reveal: Who Killed The Bride?

I am so excited to give my blog readers the first exclusive look at the brand new (and so very beautiful) print cover for my new Butterfly House series.

Love this design by Kerry Sibly at Mukau Giftware and Gallery of Cowaramup.

This was designed by Kerry Sibly at Mukau Giftware and Gallery in Cowaramup. Kerry got this concept pretty much nailed from the word go. When I first saw it via email on Tuesday night and showed it to my husband, he said: “Do Not Change ANYTHING!!”

But, you know – I’m a woman – I couldn’t change nothing! 😉

I absolutely love this cover, Kerry Sibly, and I am so looking forward to future Butterfly House adventures with you and Wendy, and Mukau.

xx

Fly, Fly, Butterfly

butterflyhouse-for-blogI have a new book project… as always seems to happen, it feels like it has taken forever to write, but all of a sudden I have the most amazing cover, and I’m signing off on printing plans, and I have a launch date and publishing deadline, and everything is happening at warp speed!

It’s called Butterfly House and its a real change of pace for me. First – it’s a series – which I’ve never done before and second it’s kind of chick-lit, not romance. It’s a seriously local story, set in an imaginary location in my home town of Cowaramup. If you’ve ever visited Cowaramup it’s that little dot on the map snuggled in the middle of far more famous cousins such as Margaret River, Busselton and Dunsborough… and for years and years if you blinked driving through on the Bussell Highway, you missed it.

Not anymore. Now you blink because you think some farmer just let his prize herd of dairy cows escape out the farm gate…

These days, Cowaramup is famous for its herd of life-size fibreglass cows that munch imaginary daisies on our main street, chew their cud, a-low and a-moo and lie or stand around doing their thang day in, day out. (Here are some photos of WA romance authors Jennie Jones and Juanita Kees checking out the cows during a visit with me in 2014).

Not everyone loves the Cowaramup cows, but most people do, and I’m one of the latter. The cows have been wonderful for retail businesses who might otherwise have had to close their shop doors as our town got bypassed for the bigger, more touristy places. Now people have a reason to stop, take photos, and enjoy so much of the community spirit that makes Cowtown, such a cool town.

In the first of the Butterfly House books, Who Killed The Bride, we meet Cally Minter and her best friend, Sienna Devereux, just as they are about to launch their new business: Murder Mystery at Butterfly House.

Do you remember those old fashioned murder mysteries that were a ‘thing’ about 20 years ago? I wrote one once (incidentally). It featured Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, Sylvester Stallone, Russell Crowe, Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz, Angelina Jolie and Jack Nicholson. (Hubby played Jack).

I wrote scripts for everyone and the game ran on the clock. People had to be some place at a certain time and say something to another character. Or some other character might see them leaving the garden, or the shed, or the house (with a dripping bloody dagger in their hand) kind of thing.

In the game I wrote years ago, ‘Tom Cruise’ was found dead in the front yard of our garden in Hahndorf… and it turned out Angelina and Russell were the dastardly pair who combined to knock him off. (Russell was jealous because he’d missed out on the lead in The Last Samurai, which Tom went on to get…). We played the game and ate, drank and made very merry… we had a blast.

Butterfly House kind of takes off, where that fledgling idea began.

I can’t wait to show you the AMAZING full cover for Who Killed The Bride? Butterfly House: Book 1. It was designed by local artist (incidentally – he doubles as ‘vet’ to the Cowtown cows) Kerry Sibly who runs the gift shop Mukau in Cowaramup main street. This man is a genius!

I also can’t wait to tell you about my plans for the launch and sale of the book and how, where and when you can get your hands on a signed PRINT copy. Lots of exciting news to come including a cover reveal tomorrow! I’ll post it here first 🙂

About a Book Launch

Oh what a night we had at the print launch of THE VINEYARD IN THE HILLS last Thursday. Can you believe more than 50 people came to hear me rabbit on about my writing life and writing journey? I ‘rabbited’ on for so long about baking fails, painting fails and writing fails, I almost forgot to talk about the writing success! (ie, the book!

The whole evening felt magical to me. So great to get the opportunity to launch my book locally amongst family and friends, and then to find new readers from local bookclubs, and friends of friends who were dragged came willingly, along.

Thank you to Fermoy Estate wines of Margaret River who sponsored the wines for the evening. We definitely enjoyed the liquid refreshment 🙂 Biggest thank you in the world to Pauline and Keith McLeod of the brilliant, fabulous, amazing, independent THE MARGARET RIVER BOOKSHOP!

Mostly, I’ve just been blown away by the people who bought my book at the launch, who’ve let me know they bought the book from a shop, have spotted the book, are reading or have read the book, and enjoyed the story. It is just the very best feeling in the world to have someone tell you they like the story you spent so many months slaving over.

Picture1

I’m offering a giveaway on my Facebook page and here on the blog. I’ll announce the winners in the first week of October. To enter, you just need to snap a picture of THE VINEYARD IN THE HILLS and either tweet it to me @lily_lilymalone or post on your Facebook (friend me first if you like) and tag me, or email me at lilymalone@ mail.com

Above I’ve put together a collage of some of the pics of the launch, and photos that have been coming in so far.

Thanks for celebrating this very special time with me 🙂

A Story Fit For The Queen

It’s the Queen’s Birthday long weekend this weekend on the East Coast of Australia, which is an extra special time of year for my re-published novella, The Goodbye Ride. Not that I’m an avid royalist or anything, it’s just that I chose to set the book on the Queen’s Birthday holiday, in gorgeous Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills, and write about a boy, a girl, and a Ducati bike. If you fancy taking a fun sweet ride on the back of a classic old bike, this may be the perfect escape read for you 🙂

TGR

Here’s how the story starts:

Olivia Murphy had brass in pocket. One thousand dollars’ worth of brass to be exact—all hers and all hard-earned. Technically, the money was in her handbag not her pocket, but Liv wasn’t about to split hairs. The sun—for the moment at least—was shining, she’d given herself the day off tomorrow, and her parents were in Melbourne. She had the house to herself for four whole days.

Bliss.

The Langs’ place wasn’t far—just another few hundred metres’ walk out of town along the Hahndorf main street. She couldn’t see the glint of red, not yet. There were too many hedges in the way, too many neat brush fences, and her prize was set back from the road. Luke’s bike. Her brother’s Ducati Pantah 650. The bike she was about to pay Dean Lang ten thousand dollars to buy back.

If there’s one oak leaf stain on that paintwork, Mr Lang, you better get ready to knock another few hundred off your asking price.

Liv checked over her shoulder, just as she had every thirty seconds since she’d left the bank carrying ten hundred-dollar notes crisply folded in a plastic bag. The odds of getting mugged in Hahndorf weren’t high, unless by a Japanese tourist who wanted his photo taken. But why tempt fate?

She quickened her pace.

Her handbag bumped her hip. Liv clutched it close with her elbow and concentrated on where she put her feet. Rotting autumn leaves made slimy passage underfoot and the pavement was a twisted roller-coaster of treacherous roots.

On the opposite side of the road, ahead near the sixty sign, a bright red utility pulled to a stop. The driver braked hard enough to grind shining Mag wheels through the roadside slush.

It was one of those big, bristling testosterone-fuelled boy toys—one with more aerials than a radio station, mudflaps the size of a swamp, spotlights everywhere. A bull bar covered in RM Williams stickers snarled across the front.

Liv figured the driver must be heading up to camp in the backwaters of the Murray River for the Queen’s Birthday long weekend—some choice spot where he could shoot pigs and suck beers. He’d probably stopped to change CDs, throw One Hundred Best Beer Songs of All Time into the stacker.

‘Neanderthal,’ she muttered under her breath. He looked like the exact kind of arsehole who’d made her brother’s life hell.

The driver-side door opened and two feet eased out. Two feet clad in thongs. Thongs! Liv pulled her jacket tighter across her chest. Didn’t Mr Muscle Car know it was June and freezing?

No sense. No feeling.

Those feet were attached to a muscular pair of legs in black cargo shorts, and from there to a sculpted torso in a T-shirt that looked a half-size too tight.

The driver shoved his sunglasses to the top of his head, checked left and right, and his weight edged forward.

Fear iced Liv’s spine.

The brute had parked opposite Dean Lang’s house—directly opposite her bike—and now he zeroed in on the Ducati like a heat-seeking missile.

Guys like that don’t want 650 Pantahs. Guys like that drive utes! Utes with a cabin for bonking their bimbo girlfriends. Utes with a tray in the back so they can throw in a swag at the end of a big night.

Dammit.

Where was a Greyhound bus when a girl needed one? Not to hit him, mind. Just to slow him down a little. Okay, maybe wing him.

****

How far will Liv go to make the motorbike hers? Can a viticulturalist fall for a man who prefers beer? And will a romp on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend among the grapevines be long enough for Owen to convince Liv he’s interested in more than just a holiday fling?

The Goodbye Ride is a fresh, funny and poignant novella set in the beautiful Adelaide Hills. Enjoy it this Queen’s Birthday weekend, perhaps with a glass of your favourite wine.
